Biography
Dr. Somberg was born in NYC, graduated NY University (BA), NY Medical College in 1974 with an MD and completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in 1978. He trained as a research cardiologist, cellular and clinical electrophysiologist. He established in Cardiac Arrhythmia Service at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, was the Chief of Cardiology at the Chicago Medical School and then became Professor of Medicine and Chief the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Rush University in Chicago. Dr. Somberg founded the Master's Program in Clinical Research at Rush University, teaching and directing the program for the past 21 years. He was an established investigator for the American Heart Association and been a career clinical investigator, serving as a PI in over 100 Phase I, II, or Ill clinical trials. He has founded and co-organized a course on CV drug development with the Cardio-Renal Division of FDA for 20 years.
Dr. Somberg has published over 250 peer reviewed publications. He was Editor of the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology for 10 years and then was founding Editor of the American Journal of Therapeutics for 20 years, published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, as well as Section Editor for CV Therapeutics for the journal Cardiology. He is a member of the editorial Board of the Am J Cardiology. He has been instrumental in obtaining 2 NDA's, one ANDA and 2 Orphan Drug Designations. Dr. Somberg holds 14 patents.
Dr. Somberg joins the Editorial Board of Cardiology Research as Editor-in-Chief, hoping to enhance the dissemination of translational cardiovascular research and provide a forum for the research of young investigators.
